What is a Charging Document
A charging document is the formal means of accusing someone of a crime, traffic offense, or violation of probation. Typically, a charging document can be a citation, a statement of charges and probable cause, a criminal information, or a criminal indictment. A charging document will inform the person of what crime or traffic offense they are accused of, the maximum penalty, and facts to support the accusation.
