What Does “Of Counsel” Mean?
The title “Of Counsel” is used to denote an experienced attorney who has a close relationship with a law firm, providing legal services and guidance, without being a partner or associate. Attorneys who join a firm as Of Counsel are typically seasoned legal professionals with established practices and reputations. They lend their skills and knowledge to the firm on a full-time or part-time basis while maintaining some autonomy.
About Richard K. Scott
Richard K. Scott, often referred to as “Scotty,” has an impressive background that makes him exceptionally well-suited to practice law in Maryland. After graduating from Wake Forest University School of Law, he began his legal career as a Law Clerk for one of Maryland’s top judges. This experience provided him with invaluable insights into the judicial process.
Following his clerkship, Scott joined the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor. During his tenure there, he handled thousands of criminal cases ranging from traffic violations to serious felonies. This first-hand prosecutorial experience gave Scott an insider’s perspective that he continues to leverage when defending clients.
Scott is currently the Principal Attorney at The Law Office of Richard K. Scott, LLC in Towson, MD. In fact, Scott and Shepard Law practice out of the same building. The Law Office of Richard K. Scott, LLC helps people with criminal defense, juvenile defense, traffic violations, personal injury, and family law matters.
In addition to his legal career, Scott is a former U.S. Army officer who served with the prestigious 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell. His service instilled in him a disciplined work ethic and commitment to defending the rights of others.
